The Gateway to the Ancient Bedrock

You are standing in Röstånga. A place that has always been a safe haven – right where the plain meets the ridge.
People have been coming here for hundreds of years. First on foot and on horseback along the old sunken lanes, and later by steam train, when the railway arrived in the 1890s and turned this small church village into a lively hub for tourists, forest workers and traders.
But it is not only the people who make Röstånga so special – it is the ground beneath your feet.
The village lies right on the edge of the Tornquist Zone, one of the largest geological fault zones in Europe. Millions of years ago the earth shook here, the bedrock fractured, and Söderåsen rose up out of the plain. Take a deep breath and you will feel the fresh forest air – and when you drink the village's spring water, you are drinking the mountain's own lifeblood: rainwater that has seeped through cracks in the ancient bedrock, been filtered for hundreds of years in underground reservoirs, and now flows ice-cold and rich in minerals from the taps.
They say time passes a little more slowly in Röstånga. Perhaps it is the quiet beech forest at the edge of the village, or the knowledge that every crossroads here holds traces of irregular soldiers, old craftsmen and seekers.
Now you are standing right on the border. Where the village streets end, the wild forest takes over, and a dark path opens into the ridge. A place where the line between our world and the old legends quickly begins to blur.

Kågeröd
The Village at the Foot of the Ridge
A village on the south-western slope of Söderåsen, right where the ridge meets the plain. The Vege å flows through the village in its upper reaches. Look up to the north. There the ridge rises, clad in beech forest. Beneath the forest lies gneiss, more than a billion years old. A block of ancient bedrock pushed up out of the Earth's crust.

Klåveröd
The Wilderness on the Ridge
A large recreation area high up on Söderåsen, between Kågeröd and Ljungbyhed. Here, beech forest, mixed woodland and dark spruce forests meet. And in the middle of all the green, the bedrock breaks through.
